Edinburgh Tourist InformationEdinburgh is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular cities in the world. It has a spellbinding history that is still highly visible with just a walk down the street. It's old town is centred around the incredible Edinburgh Castle at the top of the historic Royal Mile, which by the way, is a few blocks away from your Euro Hostel.Appropriately, Edinburgh's history starts on the Castle Rock, which was occupied during the bronze and iron ages. After a brief stopover by The Romans, it was The Angels of Northumbria, in the 7th century that conquered the town and claimed it. The King, a man named Edwin, proclaimed the town to be Edwin's Burgh. The name has stayed similarly until the present day. David I moved his capital from Dunfermline to Edinburgh in 1124 and it remains Scotland's capital city today. From its original small size as a walled city, the population is sitting presently at around 450,000. Not only is the population growing, but the geographical size is expanding all the time as well. Modern Edinburgh is a vibrant, exciting city that guarantees to please the most experienced traveller. It's cafe and bar scene rivals any in the world, its historic attractions abound, the shopping is superb and then …. There's the Whisky!! This section of the website includes a comprehensive tourist information guide to Edinburgh's attractions.
