Edinburgh Castle
Edinburgh Castle
Edinburgh Castle is visited annually by approximately one million people and for anyone visiting the city for the first time, it's a must.
Within the confines of Edinburgh Castle, there is much to see. It was the seat (and regular refuge) of Scottish Kings, and the historical apartments include the Great Hall, which now houses an interesting collection of weapons and armour.
The One O'Clock Gun is fired from the ramparts above the city every day except Sunday at precisely 1.00pm and will certainly startle you if you are anywhere near the Castle at that time!
Tickets cost £11.00 for an adult and £5.50 for a child.
Craigmillar Castle
Craigmiller Castle lies just 3 miles south east of the centre of Edinburgh. Very little is known about the early history of Craigmillar but it is one of the most complete preserved medieval castles in Scotland. History does tell us that sometime around the mid 14th century the lands passed into the hands of an important scottish family, the Prestons, from a John or William de Capella. But who was Capella? A medieval monk? Possibly he had links with the previous owners, the Holy Trinity of Dunfermline? Find out more with a visit to this fabulous castle.
Tickets cost £4.00 Adults and £2.00 for children.
