Football
It's known throughout the world as one of the greatest rivalries in world sport. Yes, I'm talking about "The Old Firm", the famous Celtic and Rangers. Being at a Celtic V Rangers match, no matter who's at home, is something not to be missed. If you're heading to Glasgow for this amazing experience, here's some helpful directions. But first, why not have a brief read about the history of "The Old Firm".

The Rangers-Celtic "Old Firm" rivalry is one of the oldest and fiercest in world football history, dating back to the late 1800's, when Celtic were founded in Glasgow's East End. The teams first met at Celtic Park on May 28, 1888 in what was also the Parkhead club's first ever match. 2000 fans watched Celtic win 5-2. The nickname "The Old Firm" originated in the early years of the 20th Century when the two clubs began to dominate Scottish football and referred, in part, to the massive financial gains associated with their frequent meetings. No two teams throughout the world have dominated a national championship like Celtic and Rangers, having won between them 87 of the 105 titles since 1890.

There is another team in Glasgow you know. They're called Partick Thistle and they were also founded in the late 1800's. Thistle's two greatest achievements have been winning the Scottish Cup in 1921, beating Rangers 1-0 and the Scottish League Cup in 1971, thrashing the unbackable favourites, Celtic, 4-1.

Rugby
Glasgow Rugby is the team you're looking for. They play in the fast and furious Celtic League with other teams from Scotland, Ireland and Wales as well as the European Heineken Cup. They play in a modern stadium in the Hughenden area of the city, which is readily accessible by train.

Hughenden By Rail: Take the train to the Hyndland Raliway Station. The field is right there.

Ice Hockey
Having it's world beginning in Ontario, Canada, in 1860 and now being played in over 55 countries world wide, Ice hockey was first played in Scotland around 1908. And you guessed it, it was is Glasgow. They played in a rink in Crossmyloof, that had a 'bandstand' on pillars in the middle of it up. That makes for an interesting match I'd say.

Ice Hockey is now recognised as the fastest team game on the planet and a true spectacle to behold. Glasgow's Paisley Pirates are currently near the top of the table in the Scottish National League. Catch a match at The Lagoon while you're in town.

The Lagoon: In Paisley, off the M8, about 6 miles west of Glasgow.

Basketball
With a real shot at winning the British Basketball League title, as usual, The Scottish Rocks are well worth supporting. Their matches are played at Braehead Arena, which has regular, easy buses from Central Station.
