Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is a ‘Hostel’?

A. The short answer is a hotel… but with more choices. Self-service laundry and self-catering kitchens are all standard but at Euro Hostel Edinburgh Halls you are in your very own inner-city apartment as well. Early check-in and late check-out are all available as is car parking, tour sales and all the necessities you might need during your stay.

Q. Who stays at a hostel?

A. Everyone looking for low-cost, city-centre accommodation. 18-80 year olds from all walks of life are flocking to hostel accommodation all over the world.

Q. What sort of rooms do you have?

A. We’re a little different at Euro Hostel Edinburgh Halls. All of our accommodation is in self-catering apartments. These apartments range in size from 3 persons to our massive 12-person apartments. Within these apartments are Private Single and Twin Rooms (2 x Single Beds). You can take a room to yourself or a whole apartment.

Q. What do the apartments have in them?

A. Each apartment has private bedrooms, a kitchen, lounge/dining areas, bathroom(s) and toilet(s). The kitchens have an oven/cooker, microwave, toaster and electric kettle. All utensils and pots/pans are supplied. Everything is ready for you to bring along your own food and start cooking up a storm.

Q. Will I be sharing a bathroom?

A. Yes you will. All our accommodation is in shared apartments with shared facilities. We do not have any ensuite bedrooms.

Q. Does Euro Hostel supply bed linen?

A. We sure do. In fact, you are NOT permitted to use your own linen or sleeping bags. We also supply towels too.

Q. Is breakfast supplied?

A. No. All accommodation is self-catering. You have a kitchen in each apartment with all kitchen utensils, crockery, toaster, electric kettle, microwave, oven, pots and pans etc. And if you don’t feel like cooking we are right in the heart of the city within metres of cafes, restaurants and bars. There are supermarkets within 5 minutes walk as well.

Q. What time is check in and out?

A. Check-in is available from 3pm or anytime after and check-out is on or before 11am. Early check-in is available from midday (£3.00) and late check-out is available to 2.00pm (£3.00). Reception is open 24 hours.

Q. Is there Wi-Fi or Internet available?

A. Sorry, but we don’t have any Internet facilities at the hostel. We are less than 2 minute’s walk to 3 Internet Cafes, but we do not have any in-house.

Q. Is there car parking?

A. Yes… loads of it. It’s not included in the room cost but is still around half of what you’d pay at a parking station at only £9.00 per day/night. Remember, Edinburgh is one of the strictest cities in the world for illegal parking on the street. Don’t risk it!

Q. I’m arriving late, will reception be open?

A. Of course… we’re open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Q. Is there a curfew?

No. You have your own key to your own apartment, so no need to rush home.

Q. Can I smoke in my room?

A. Absolutely Not!  The hostel is completely smoke free, even in a private room.  We will charge you £50 should this be ignored.  We insist on preserving our smoke free environment.

Q. Are the rooms noisy?

A. Please remember, we are absolute city centre and with that comes some noise from the street. The windows are double-glazed and on the inside of the building is a courtyard. Also remember, there’s a huge Festival in August as well. I won’t say it’s quiet, but it’s not too bad.

Q. Do I have to pay anything when I book?

A. Yes. At the time of booking you will be charged a 10% non-refundable deposit. If you are booking for a group (10 or more people) you will notice a special section within the Terms and Conditions that you will be asked to agree to.

Q. If I cancel my booking, do I lose my 10% deposit?

A. Sure do. To maintain our low rates, we have to recover costs on any lost administrative time and possible loss of income due to rooms not being sold when they were once booked out. Think of the budget airlines and what happens if you cancel with them!

Q. What age do I have to be to stay at the hostel?

A. We welcome all ages but any under 18’s must be accompanied by 1 adult per 5-Person apartment. There must be 2 adults per 12-Person Apartment.
