Yuri Gagarin exhibition open in Edinburgh
A new exhibition looking at the exciting life of Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space, has opened in Edinburgh - providing an alternative to the traditional tourist attractions for people staying at hostels in Edinburgh.
'Poyekhali: Yuri Gagarin and the Dawn of Space Exploration' at the Scotland-Russia Institute looks at the beginnings of the brave young Russian cosmonaut, who became the world's first spaceman on April 12th, 1961.
Three months after Gagarin's legendary voyage he made a historic visit to the UK where he was followed everywhere he went by crowds of admirers.
This exhibition brings the man back to the UK in exhibition form, drawing on the archives of Russia's leading news agency to tell the story of his life, his career, his historic flight and the fame that followed him until his death in 1968.
Entrance is free to the exhibition, which runs until October 28th at the Scotland-Russia Institute, South College Street.
