Charlie Simpson brings solo show to Edinburgh

It's taken a long time for the former Busted frontman Charlie Simpson to banish the pop albatross from around his neck, but having finally done so with Fightstar people staying in city centre accommodation in Edinburgh can see him perform solo at the city's Liquid Rooms.

Admitting that he's had something of a "crazy journey" through the music industry, Charlie spent a long time making music he didn't like because his contract said he had to.

After finally breaking free from Busted, it took his new band Fightstar some time to persuade the doubters that he was more than just an industry stooge, but having sold out the Shepherds Bush Empire with the band, he is now embarking on a solo career.

By no means does this mean he has left Fighstar behind, but taking a break from the band, he is recording very different music which is much more folk-infused, drawing on inspiration from the likes of Elliot Smith and Crosby, Stills and Nash.

Now, fans can get the chance to see where his journey has taken him as he performs Young Pilgrim, the debut solo album produced by Coldplay and Doves producer Danny Supple.

Charlie Simpson performs at the Liquid Rooms on Friday March 30th. Tickets cost £15 including booking fee and doors open at 7pm.
