Laura Marling brings her nu-folk to the Sage Gateshead

The celebrated nu-folk pioneer Laura Marling will perform her latest album Creatures I Don't Know in front of Newcastle hostel guests when she heads to the Sage Gateshead in March 2012.

Not many musicians have been nominated for both the Mercury Music Prize and the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, but Laura Marling is one of them.

Her stunning vocals and heart-wrenching lyrics as well as her delicate guitar playing and catchy hooks have all helped propel Laura Marling to the forefront of the so-called nu-folk genre.

Whether Marling herself is a fan of such a term remains to be seen, but her earthy style and wandering musicianship have helped the phrase stick with a particularly strong kind of glue.

An original member of Noah and the Whale, another band to be branded with the nu-folk mark, Laura has arguably had more solo success than the band she departed.

Playing at the Sage, just a short walk down to the Quayside and across the iconic Millennium Bridge from city centre accommodation in Newcastle, the landmark music hall with its incredible acoustics is a perfect venue for an artist of Marling's calibre.

Laura Marling plus Special Guests will perform at the Sage Gateshead on Monday March 5th. Tickets cost £18.50 and £25 and doors open at 7pm.
