Melanie C heads to the O2 Academy in Newcastle

Having just released her fifth studio album, Melanie C is heading out on a four date tour which kicks off in front of Newcastle hostel guests at the city's O2 Academy.

It is fair to say that it took Melanie some time to move on from the Sporty Spice image that saw her become one part of the most successful girl band in history.

Her first solo album Northern Star (1999) showed that, despite some seeing her as the least talented Spice Girl, she had what it took to go it alone after the band's demise.

With four albums and over three million sales, including two number one singles and six top ten hits, she is enjoying the most successful solo music career of any of her former bandmates.

The singer even found time in 2004 to set up her own record label, which she has since used to publish her own music and more recently starred in a West End production of the hit show Blood Brothers, for which she was nominated for a prestigious Olivier Award.

Now she has returned from her theatrical adventures and is hitting the road again, touring her latest album The Sea.

Melanie C plays at the O2 Academy Newcastle on Sunday February 26th. Tickets cost £15 plus booking fee and doors open at 7pm.
