Lights, camera, action as AV Festival returns to Newcastle

The biennial AV Festival returns in March this year, giving people staying in Newcastle hostels the chance to enjoy a month full of events celebrating audio visual culture.

Each AV Festival centres around a theme or issue, and this year the curators have chosen As Slow As Possible as the title, giving the festival a slow motion focus.

Building on the success of the last festival in 2010, AV Festival 12 is the biggest yet, with audiences across the north-east treated to more than 15 exhibitions and over 50 music events and film screenings.

AV Festival director Rebecca Shatwell said that artists had responded to the idea of slowness with a wonderful array of works, while the new month-long format has allowed the festival to embrace the theme.

"The artists have responded to ideas of slowness, duration and acceleration to create work that will enable us to pause, reflect and think about the world in new ways," she said.

For the full programme of events visit the AV Festival 12 website.

The AV Festival 12 runs from March 1st to 31st 2012 at venues across the north-east. Ticket prices vary according to the event, with many events free.
