See how Shakespeare inspired artists while staying at a Newcastle hostel
City centre accommodation in Newcastle may be used by art and literature fans who want to catch the latest exhibition at the Laing Art Gallery.
Until May 27th, the Laing is hosting the Shakespeare in Art exhibition to celebrate the 175th birthday of Newcastle's Theatre Royal, which plays host to dramas, West End shows, comedies and Shakespeare plays.
To celebrate this birthday, the Laing is showcasing art that has been inspired by William Shakespeare and his literary works.
Newcastle hostel guests can see paintings, prints and objects from Tyne & Wear Archives and museums' collections.
The art gallery states: "Visitors young and old will recognise characters from Shakespeare's best-known plays such as Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, The Merchant of Venice and much more."
One of the highlights is Thomas Francis Dicksee's portrayal of Juliet from Shakespeare's well-known tragedy about star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet.
This painting was created in 1877 and has been loaned by the Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens.
Dicksee was an English 19th century painter born in London who created portraits and other art works depicting historical and Shakespeare subjects.
