Get involved in a conceptual work of art at the BALTIC
Art fans staying in Newcastle hostels can get involved in On Kawara's One Million Years when the mammoth piece of conceptual art comes to the BALTIC in Gateshead.
Featured as part of the AV Festival 12, One Million Years by On Kawara comprises an epic 20-volume book covering the Past and Future, from the year 998,031 BC to 1,001,995 AD.
Kawara's type-written work of art, which is dedicated to 'all those who have lived and died' in the Past volumes and 'the last one' in the Future volumes, will be read by volunteers over a two-month period at the art gallery, which is where you come in.
Each day that the 'exhibition' runs there are four slots for participants to take part, with a male and female reader sharing each slot and reading passages from the Past and Future in turn.
On Kawara, One Million Years is part of the AV Festival 12 and runs at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art from March 1st until April 29th. Entrance is free.
Visit the BALTIC website to get involved.
