Newcastle hosts its own night at the museum
The Late Shows returns in 2012 for its fifth year, giving people staying in Newcastle hostels the chance to visit the city's top museums, galleries and venues afterhours.
Across a weekend in May, the top venues in Newcastle, including the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, open their doors late at night with a range of special one-off events.
Having first launched in 2007 with just 14 venues involved, by 2011 there were a massive 46 taking part and this year promises to see even more hosting their own events.
Designed to attract a younger audience to a cultural venue they might not choose to visit otherwise, the Late Shows offers a diverse programme of events - from workshops and demos, to exhibitions and gigs.
The programme is part of the Museums at Night project that will see similar events take place across the UK and is funded by the Archives Council and the Museums Libraries.
The Late Shows 2012 takes place in venues across Newcastle and Gateshead on Friday May 18th and Saturday May 19th. Prices vary depending on the event and many are free.
