Take in the Old Town from Edinburgh hostels base

Edinburgh hostels could provide visitors to the city with the ideal base from which to explore the Old Town.

The area is the historical centrepiece of the city and one of the biggest draws for visitors, many of who likely visit the Scottish capital specifically to see this particular part of the city.

With the famous Royal Mile at its core, the area boasts a number of beautiful buildings and a bustling atmosphere.

The Edinburgh tourist board states: "With a fascinating history that's impossible to ignore, every one of the tightly packed buildings in the Old Town has earned its place in history … [and is] surrounded by steeply sloping streets and mysterious wynds."

Furthermore, the Mile connects the world-famous Edinburgh Castle, which sits at the top of the stretch, with the Palace of Holyroodhouse and Scottish Parliament, which lie at its foot.

As such, visitors to the area can soak up the political and cultural heritage of both the past and present.
