World Pipe Band Championships come to Glasgow

Hostels in Glasgow are set to be filled with the traditional sounds of the bagpipes as the World Pipe Band Championships comes to the city.

On August 14th over 8,000 pipers and drummers will be in Glasgow competing for the "coveted" first prize.

Organisers expect to attract over 40,000 visitors to the event, with an adult ticket costing £9 in advance or £11 on the day.

The championships will also be broadcast by BBC Scotland, who will be streaming all the action from the Grade One Arena live.

Ian Embelton, chief executive of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association, said: "There was such a great response to the live streaming from all around the world last year and we are delighted it's available again this year.

"It's a boost for traditional music, allowing a worldwide audience to watch the drama unfold on Glasgow Green."

The tournament coincides with the International Piping festival, which takes place between August 9th and 15th.
