Tourist's motorbikes at risk from thieves in Edinburgh
Visitors arriving at hostels in Edinburgh on motorbikes should be warned that thieves are currently targeting tourist's bikes.
There has recently been a spate of thefts across the city, leading to a warning being issued by the police urging those riding in the city to make sure their motorbikes are secure.
In an official release, a spokesperson for the Lothian and Boarders police said: "We are warning bike owners - especially those holidaying in Edinburgh - to be on their guard.
"Leaving your bike unsecured is an invitation to thieves, and these thefts serve as an example of what can happen if you do not take the appropriate steps to protect your vehicle."
It was added that motorbike owners should make sure they attach their vehicle to an immovable object.
So far three bikes have been stolen, with one being recovered nearby to where it was taken.
It should be advised, therefore, that when you retire to your city centre accommodation in Edinburgh, that adequate steps have been taken to avoid theft.
The first motorbike ever built was in 1885 by German inventors Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach.
