Edinburgh Mela festival kicks off

People staying in Edinburgh hostels may be interested in checking out the Edinburgh Mela, the city's multicultural festival.

Held in Leith Links - which is now the event's permanent home - the festival celebrates the city's cultural diversity with music, art, dance and theatre, along with a host of other activities.

Kicking off today (August 6th), visitors will be able to shop and relax throughout the festival as there is a dedicated market and a number of stalls offering ethnic foods.

On Saturday, the Jaipur Kawa Circus will be performing, wowing audiences with a fusion of dance, puppetry, theatre, live music and circus tricks.

Festival director Liam Sinclair and Steve Cardownie, the chair of the board, said: "We are confident that this year is the biggest and best yet.

"Mela represents an exciting celebration of Edinburgh's diverse communities, their heritage and culture and how this continues to develop a strong and evolving, contemporary, Scottish identity."

Adult tickets for the festival cost only £2 and children under the age of 12 go for free.
