Money-saving tips offered to those backpacking in Edinburgh

People staying in budget city centre accommodation in Edinburgh for this year's Festival Fringe have been offered some advice on how to keep costs down.

The three-week festival will kick off tomorrow (August 6th) and is set to attract thousands of visitors, so the Guardian has compiled a list of cost-saving tips that those on a budget may like to take note of.

The news provider suggests that visitors look out for two-for-one offers on tickets as well as events by the BBC because they are often free of charge.

Should you not be fussy when it comes to what you watch, it may be a good idea to visit the half-price hut at The Mound, as tickets are sold for selected shows on the day.

The newspaper wrote: "Another way to reduce the cost of tickets is to offer to help out with a production. There are still some last-minute jobs up for grabs. Keep an eye on the Fringe's Facebook group for opportunities."

In terms of travel, it advised that the cheapest mode of transport is the Megabus, with one-way overnight tickets from London to Edinburgh costing £22.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe has been running for over 50 years and is the world's largest arts festival.
