Celebrate the Great North Run in Newcastle

Great North Run fanatics could find Newcastle hostels the ideal resting place for their visit to celebrate the popular race.

With the event in its 30th year, an exhibition has been set up at the Great North Museum, Newcastle, to champion the race.

Entitled In The Long Run: 30 Years of the Great North Run, the exhibition looks into the history of the event and the impact it has had in shaping the region's cultural identity.

Famous athletes and the race itself are considered, though a significant part of the display considers the organisational aspects of such a large event.

The benefits brought about by fundraising associated with the run are also looked at, while community spirit and the race's social history are other explored themes.

The exhibition will likely be hugely popular with those who have taken part in the race on a number of occasions.
