View sport art in Newcastle
People staying in Newcastle hostels may wish to attend an exhibition in the city that explores the genre of sport art in Britain.
Sporting Art in Britain, which runs until October 10th at Bowes Museum, is sure to attract a great deal of attention from both sports and art fans.
Pieces set to go on display include works by Landseer, George Stubbs, Sir Alfred Munnings and George Morland.
Central to the exhibition will be the story of John Bowes, after who the museum is named.
Bowes, who won the Triple Crown, had a love for horseracing that will be considered in the display.
The event will not simply be a consideration of the paintings as pieces of art, however.
NewcastleGateshead.com states: "The exhibition will consider whether this in itself is a statement about the class system in the 18th century, particularly as the print industry became prominent.
"It will also consider the next generation of painters."
As well as the array of paintings, lifelike bronzes will also be on display.
