Visit Newcastle hostels while visiting John Cage exhibition

Music and art lovers staying in Newcastle hostels this week have one final chance to see a special exhibition dedicated to revered US composer, writer and artist John Cage.

On show at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Newcastle until September 5th, Every Day is a Good Day is the first major exhibition devoted to the works of the famous polymath.

As well as being heralded as one of the most influential composers of the 20th century, Cage, who died in 1992, was a pioneer of electronic music and the use of non-standard instruments.

Included in the exhibition are more than 100 of his artworks on paper, including his Ryonaii series and etchings of scores for various musical pieces.

The exhibition was selected and installed to mirror the artist's use of chance in both his musical and visual works.

Every Day is a Good Day was organised by Hayward Touring with the Baltic Centre and the John Cage Trust, with a special publication produced to accompany the show.
