Hogmanay festival set to launch Edinburgh into the new year

Those looking for somewhere to celebrate the arrival of the new year could stay in Edinburgh hostels and visit the city's annual Hogmanay festival.

A torchlight procession will start the event on December 30th with thousands of torch carriers heading from Parliament Square to Calton Hill where a fireworks display will take place.

On New Year's Eve itself, the Hogmanay street party will begin and will feature live music and entertainment, DJs, outdoor bars and a fireworks display to bring in 2011.

At the same time a concert in Princes Street gardens will feature the Charlatans and Biffy Clyro, with both performing the last gig of this year and the first of next.

Vic Galloway, the event host, told the BBC that he "cannot wait" for the show to get underway.

"I've loved Biffy Clyro since before they were signed, and now my boys are one of the biggest and best rock bands in the world," he told the news provider.

"And to have Manchester legends The Charlatans there as well, what a night - it's just top."

Tickets for the concert in the gardens are £35, the torchlight procession is free and entry to the street party will cost £15.
