Mountain climbing enthusiasts can take a peek at how it's done at festival
Mountain climbing fanatics could stay in Edinburgh hostels later this month and head to an event dedicated to exploring the sport through films, lectures and exhibitions.
The eighth Edinburgh Mountain Film Festival will be held at the George Square Lecture Theatre at Edinburgh University, featuring a series of film-climbing flicks and talks with well-known climbers.
British mountaineer Mick Fowler will be one of the guests at the event, speaking about climbing Scottish icefalls and Devon chalk cliffs.
Fowler was voted the 'mountaineer's mountaineer' by the Observer newspaper in 1989 and previously told livemint.com that climbing the Himalayas was a "mix of cultural and mountaineering interest" for him.
"For those of us who are interested in technical climbing on sub-8,000m peaks, there are endless possibilities for exploratory new climbs in areas little influenced by the outside world," he said.
A weekend ticket for the event costs £45 and single tickets to the different events cost between £5 and £10.
