Soft Cell's Marc Almond visits Edinburgh to celebrate 30 years of music

English singer Marc Almond celebrates 30 years in the music industry by touring the UK over the next month and Edinburgh hostels could provide rest for fans attending his gig in the city.

The musician, who is also one half of synthpop group Soft Cell, is heading to the Picturehouse in Edinburgh on November 23rd to perform a mix of his older solo work as well as hits from his new album Variete, which was released in June.

Almond now has 12 solo albums after releasing three in the 1980s with David Ball as Soft Cell.

Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret, the pair's first release, reached number five in the UK charts and featured their number-one selling single Tainted Love.

Nearly three decades later, Almond is still performing and Dave Simpson, reviewing Variete for the Guardian, said that the singer still uses sounds of old in his new songs.

He said: "The Trials of Eyeliner partly revisits territory he first explored in Soft Cell's Where the Heart Is, while Soho So Long bids farewell to a place he has clearly never left in spirit."

Tickets for the Edinburgh show are £25.75.
