Athlete near the end of marathon UK tour with show in Newcastle
Fans of indie rock band Athlete could book into Newcastle hostels this week as the group plans to perform in the city as part of a UK tour.
The O2 Academy in Newcastle will host the performance, which will be one of their final shows of the year, on December 1st, two days before they bow out at the Manchester Academy.
Joel Pott, Carey Willets, Steve Roberts and Tim Wanstall have released four albums, all of which have reached the top 20 in the UK including Tourist which topped the charts in 2005.
Their music has also been popular in television programmes, with shows such as One Tree Hill, The OC and Ugly Betty all featuring Athlete songs in various episodes.
People that listened to Wires, a 2005 release, gave the band "an amazing response", according to the group's guitarist Pott.
"When Wires was written we had no idea that so many people would connect to that song," he told the Yorkshire Post.
Tickets for the show on Wednesday are £18.15.
