Grease heads to Edinburgh for 16 summer nights in 2011

Grease the musical will be touring the UK in 2011 and those looking to shake their hips along to well-known show hits could book into Edinburgh hostels and recuperate.

Edinburgh Playhouse will host the musical between May 6th and 21st next year and those who enjoyed the film could see the live version.

The original musical became the longest-running show on Broadway in 1979, some seven years after it first premiered.

Set in Rydell High School, the story depicts love, friendship and rebellion and its popularity led to the 1978 film version, which starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.

Scott Matthewman, reviewing the show for The Stage in August, wrote that "there is much to enjoy" as the show features all of the classic songs, including Summer Nights and You're the One That I Want.

The show's website says: "Grease has maintained its everlasting popularity, proving that teenage angst and love's young dream remain timeless and universal themes."

Tickets to see the show are priced between £27.25 and £41.25.
