Premier League Darts aiming to hit the bullseye with Newcastle fans

Premier League Darts fans could consider booking into Newcastle hostels next year as the tournament makes its way to the city.

The Metro Radio Arena will be hosting a night of oche action on May 12th as the seventh year of the competition takes place, featuring all of the leading names in the sport.

Five-times Premier League Darts winner Phil 'The Power' Taylor will be returning to defend his crown, along with 2009 victor James Wade.

The two competed against each other in last year's final, but Taylor with a three-dart average of 111.67 beat his rival 10-8 to pick up yet another piece of silverware.

However, the Stoke-born thrower was just short of winning last Sunday's Sports Personality of the Year award, losing out to jockey Tony McCoy.

Taylor told the Guardian of his delight for McCoy and also for the sport he loves.

"He's another who was totally overdue some real acknowledgement. We're very dedicated – and we both love to win. I'm chuffed for him – but it's also a massive statement for me and for darts. We're really hitting the big time now," he told the news provider.

Standard tickets are priced at £23.50.
