Celtic Connections Torchlight Parade set to kick off in Glasgow

Guests of hostels in Glasgow may like to attend the Celtic Connections Torchlight Parade, which kicks off in the city today on January 13th.

The festival will begin with a torchlight procession through the city centre, after which there will be 300 events held over 18 days.

Music concerts, ceilidhs, workshops and talks will all be taking place, among a host of other festivities.

Tom Jones will be performing his new album Praise and Blame on January 17th in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, tickets for which cost between £25 or £35, depending on if you are sitting or standing.

Also performing over the 18 days are Ani DiFranco, Teddy Thompson and Seth Lakeman.

Councillor George Redmond, chair of Glasgow Life, said: "Celtic Connections is a world-renowned festival which brings a great vibrancy and warmth to the city in the midst of winter.

"With its ambitious, eclectic programme, 2011 looks set to be one of the best years yet."
