Glasgow 'one of the UK's top shopping destinations'
Hostels in Glasgow could be the ideal place to rest after a day of shopping in the city.
That is because Glasgow is one of the UK's top shopping destinations outside of London, reports the Evening Times.
Scott Taylor, chief executive of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, told the news provider: "In the face of current economic conditions Glasgow has continued to demonstrate its resilience as the largest retail centre outside of London's West End.
"With more than 1,500 stores in the 'Style Mile' and an annual retail sales turnover of £2.4 billion it is undoubtedly a key economic driver for the city and its future growth."
Argyle Street in the city centre is also due for a £600,000 revamp this year, including a market and cafe, so there will soon be even more on offer to people staying in Glasgow hostels.
Some of the stores that opened in the city centre recently include COS, Hollister Co (sister brand of Abercrombie and Fitch) and Pretty Green, the fashion venture of Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher.
