Glasgow to develop floating village

People staying in Glasgow hostels will soon be able to visit a floating village as its development has been confirmed.

Manchester-based developer Floating Concepts has been chosen to create a £30 million floating village at Pacific Quay in Glasgow.

It will be the first man-made floating leisure village to be created in the world. The development will be home to a marina, shops and a roof top concert arena.

David Beard, chief executive of Floating Concepts, said: "Our development of the canting basin will give the people of Glasgow an opportunity to enjoy the unique experience of coming into close contact with the water and will become a quality centre for eating, drinking, shopping, entertaining and meeting friends, in a contemporary marine environment."

It is hoped that work will begin on the development in the middle of 2012 and it is thought the floating village will take three years to complete.
