Chris Steele-Perkins photography exhibition has opened in Newcastle
Newcastle hostels could prove popular with photography fans as a new Chris Steele-Perkins exhibition has opened in the city.
The British photographer is best known for his depictions of Africa, Afghanistan, England, and Japan.
Chris Steele-Perkins: Northern Exposures documents the north-east of England. The exhibition opened on Tuesday (January 18th) in Galleries Inc UK and it will run until February 24th.
In an article for the Guardian, Robert Clark wrote: "[Steele-Perkins] was struck by the north-east's interface between post-industrial decline and a surviving semi-rural lifestyle in which 'nearly everyone kept animals'.
"In his Northern Exposures series, he reveals this subculture of ferreting, grouse shooting, whippet racing and pigeon fancying to be something deeper than merely a series of flat-cap northern cliches."
The gallery is open from Tuesday to Thursday between 12pm and 5pm.
In 2008 the Chris Steele-Perkins was honored with the Terence Donovan Award by the Royal Photographic Society.
