Duran Duran to play in Newcastle

Duran Duran fans may like to stay in Newcastle hostels this summer as the 80s band is set to kick off their summer tour in the city.

The Rio hitmakers will be playing in the Metro Radio Arena on May 18th.

It will mark the band's first European performance in support of their new album All You Need is Now, which was produced by Mark Ronson.

The Newcastle gig is the start of a new world tour that is due to last well into 2012.

Tickets for the gig go on sale on Friday (January 28th) at 9.30am. Those planning to attend can chose from tickets priced £30, £40 and £55.

All You Need is Now was released in November last year. Following its recording, Ronson revealed his early obsession with the 80s legends.

He told the Guardian: "Duran Duran were my first musical obsession. There was a dude that cut the hair of all the kids at school, and I actually went with a picture of John Taylor in all his coiffed glory and had the nerve to ask for it like that. I love that band."
