Newcastle to host exhibition of working men
People who are planning to stay in Newcastle hostels may be interested in attending a new exhibition that showcases the working man.
Alexander Millar: Working Man is set to open in the Great Northern Museum: Hancock on March 26th and is due to run until May 8th.
The exhibition of the Scottish-born artist's work celebrates his unique perspective on society, which was inspired by the working class people of the north east of England.
One of the paintings included in the exhibition is Man and Boy, an oil painting that shows a boat docked at harbour.
A statement from the museum said: "Conjuring the nostalgia of a bygone era when the north east's industrial identity was at its peak, these often romantic and definitely humorous paintings have seduced people of all ages, and become iconic figures."
Mr Millar was born and raised in Springside, a small mining community just outside of Kilmarnock.
He moved to Newcastle in 1976 and began life as a professional artist in 1988.
