Newcastle photography exhibition to mark theatre's 40th anniversary

Those wishing to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Northern Stage could do so by staying in Newcastle hostels and attending an exhibition to mark the occasion.

Northern Stages: An Exhibition of Photos by Topher McGrillis opened on January 29th and will run until April 9th.

It is the first solo exhibition for the photographer, who captures behind-the-scenes images of moments that members of the public rarely have the chance to see.

A statement from the theatre said: "The beautiful, funny and intriguing photographs capture both the public-face of the company - from exhibitions and installation launches, to family day drawing events and onstage show shots - and those behind-the-scenes moments that the public rarely glimpse."

The exhibition will be available to view from 9.30am until 6pm every day except Sundays.

Until its 2006 re-opening, the Northern Stage used be known as the Newcastle Playhouse.

There are three stages within the theatre, the largest of which has 447 seats.
