Art fans staying in hostels in Glasgow could visit a new surrealist pop art exhibition due to open in the city.

Apartness is due to open on February 4th in the Recoat Gallery, which is located at 323 North Woodside Road in Glasgow.

The exhibition is a collection of works by seven different artists and showcases 'pop surrealism'.

It is due to run until March 6th and is the gallery's first show of 2011.

According to the gallery blog, the artists chosen for the exhibition are "excellent examples" of the art genre.

It said: "The works will be large, bright, complicated, dark, funny, scary and technically stunning. A great show to beat the winter blues."

The artists in the exhibit are Michael Forbes, Tristram Aver, Andrew Ingram, Heart Throb, Matt Dangler and Pamela and Erlend Tait.

Pop surrealism is better known as lowbrow art. It is a movement that developed in the late 1970s in Los Angeles.
