National Museum of Scotland to open in July

People staying in Edinburgh hostels in July may be interested in visiting the National Museum of Scotland (NMS) as it will have re-opened following a £46 million refurbishment.

The project will make the museum one of the largest in the UK, with over 20,000 objects across 36 galleries.

Sir Angus Grossart, NMS chairman, said: "We have aspired to achieve the highest international standards, which our great collections and Scotland deserve.

"We are confident that this great transformation will underline that the museum will be a key destination, which will inspire, as well as inform, visitors and generations to come."

Highlights among the pieces on show in the museum include a Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton and specimens collected by Charles Darwin.

According to the Press Association, also on show will be Alexander Fleming's Nobel Prize Gold medal for developing penicillin.

Following the three-year renovation programme, the museum is due to open on July 29th.
