Theatre Royal Newcastle to auction historic furnishings

Theatre fans may want to think about staying in hostels in Newcastle before attending a historic auction that is due to take place.

The Theatre Royal Newcastle is set to host a grand auction to sell wide range of its interior furnishings, including its auditorium seats, before the theatre closes for refurbishment.

Richard Berg Rust, the theatre's director of development, told the BBC: "The Grand Auction is a very exciting event for us, something which has never been done here before.

"A lot of these items carry historical importance, are completely unique and, what's more, every item tells a story. It's not every day you get the chance to own a piece of the Theatre Royal."

According to the news provider, bidders will also have the chance to buy curtains, drapes, brass fittings, lights and coal scuttles.

The auction is open to the public and it is due to take place on March 6th in the theatre's auditorium.
