Edinburgh's oldest building to be restored

History lovers planning to stay in Edinburgh hostels may like to visit the city's oldest building after a restoration project is completed.

The Sir Patrick Geddes Centre, a centre dedicated to one of the city's greatest thinkers, is going to be developed in Riddle's Court, the oldest building in Edinburgh.

Its development is part of a £5 million rescue plan unveiled yesterday (March 8th), reports The Scotsman.

The local authority has made a deal with the Scottish Historic Buildings Trust (SHBT) to take over a long lease over the property in order to complete the restoration.

Una Richards, director of the SHBT, said: "Although Sir Patrick Geddes was such a well-known planner and educationalist, there is actually nowhere in the city you can go to find out about his life and work."

The building dates top 1590 and it is currently home to offices and meeting rooms. Following the restoration, it will be a major teaching and learning centre.
