Newcastle stage to reveal The Madness of George III

People staying in hostels in Newcastle may enjoy a theatre production of The Madness of George III.

The play, which is directed by Christopher Luscombe, will be performed in the Theatre Royal between September 12th and 17th.

Olivier-award winning actor David Haig is set to star as King George III in the production.

Mr Haig is known for his roles in Four Weddings and a Funeral and Two Weeks Notice.

A statement from the theatre said: "With its huge cast, this epic production combines drama, politics and humour into a vivid portrait of English history.

"An international theatrical sensation on its premiere in 1991, the show was adapted into an award-winning film in 1994."

The Madness of George III was written in 1991 by Alan Bennett. It is a fictional biographical study of the latter part of George III's reign and his battle with mental illness.

George III first granted the original Theatre Royal its Royal Licence in 1787.
