Newcastle stage to host Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf

Theatre fans staying in city centre accommodation in Newcastle may enjoy seeing a performance of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf.

The show is being performed at the Northern Stage between April 12th and 30th. Adult tickets cost between £6 and £19.50.

This adaptation is a co-production between Northern Stage and Sheffield Theatres.

It tells the tale of George and Martha, a couple who invite newlyweds Nick and Honey back to their house after a party. As the evening unfolds and the alcohol consumption increases, truths begin to emerge.

A statement from the theatre said: "Set in the early 1960s, with all the stylish sex-appeal of Mad Men and the tension of a Hitchcock thriller, Albee's explosive play is a ferociously funny and emotionally raw depiction of love and marriage."

The original play was written by Edward Albee and it opened on Broadway in 1962. Four years later the play was adapted into a film starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.
