Edinburgh Writers Museum to celebrate David Hume

History fans staying in Edinburgh hostels may enjoy attending a new exhibition being held at the Writers Museum.

David Hume, 1711-1776: Man of Letters, Scientist of Man opened yesterday (April 26th) and will run until September 17th.

The exhibition is being held to mark the 300th anniversary of the birth of the philosopher and historian who was born in Edinburgh.

Hume wrote essays on a number of subjects, including religion, politics, economics and philosophical ideas. He was known for presenting them in an easily understandable form.

A statement from the museum said: "Hume, who is widely considered the most important philosopher ever to have written in English, can also claim to be the first modern British historian and the first Scottish essayist.

"This exhibition features material which until now has never been seen on public display."

Included in the exhibit will be rare books and original manuscripts. It is free to attend.
