People who are planning to stay in hostels in Edinburgh may enjoy attending an exhibition that focuses on a Scottish colourist.

The Scottish Colourist Series: F C B Cadell will open at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art's Dean Gallery on October 22nd and it will run until March 18th.

Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell was born in 1833 and is one of four artists that are popularly known as The Scottish Colourists.

A statement from the gallery said: "[Cadell] was born in Edinburgh, where he lived for most of his life, and studied in Paris and Munich.

"Cadell is celebrated for his stylish portrayals of Edinburgh interiors, his vibrantly coloured still lives of the 1920s, and for his evocative landscapes of the west of Scotland and the south of France."

This exhibition has approximately 70 paintings from both public and private collections.

The other Scottish colourists were J D Fergusson, G L Hunter and S J Peploe.
