August Sander exhibition being held in Edinburgh

Art fans planning a stay in Edinburgh hostels may enjoy checking out an exhibition of works by August Sander, who died in 1964.

The exhibition opened on February 12th and it is due to close on July 10th, so the show would be ideal for those heading to Edinburgh hostels over the coming weeks.

Sander is known as one of the most influential photographers of the 20th century and during his career he took pictures of people and then classified them according to their position within society.

A statement from the Artist Rooms, where the exhibit is being held, said: "The exhibition is taken from a major collection of over 170 modern prints, recently placed on long loan to Artist Rooms courtesy of Anthony d'Offay.

"The prints were produced from the original plates by August Sander’s grandson, Gerd Sander, who himself is a photographer and master printer."

Admission to the exhibition is free.
