Newcastle stage to host play by Lorca

Theatre fans may like to stay in city centre accommodation in Newcastle after seeing a play by Spanish dramatist Federico Garcia Lorca.

Lorca: Amor En El Jardin, meaning Love in the Garden, will be performed at the Northern Stage on a number of dates between October 6th and 11th.

The production is being put on to mark the 75th anniversary of Lorca's death.

It will be performed in Spanish and tickets for the event cost £12 for adults and £9 for concessions.

A statement from the theatre said: "This tragicomic story tells of the wealthy Don Perlimplin who just wants to spend his days quietly reading books. Reluctantly, he agrees to marry the unsuitably gorgeous and much younger Belisa. But what has he let himself in for?

"With evocative live music, larger-than-life characters and Lorca's poetry, you'll be seduced by this surreal tale of deceit, disguise and obsession."

Lorca is believed to have been one of thousands who were summarily shot by anti-communist death squads during the Spanish Civil War in 1936.
