Edinburgh Playhouse to welcome Oliver!

Musical fans who are planning to stay in Edinburgh hostels may like to go and see Oliver! being performed in the city.

Oliver! opens at the Edinburgh Playhouse on May 30th next year and will run until June 7th.

The show tells the tale of Oliver, an orphan who runs away from his orphanage and ends up with a group of boys trained to pick pockets by their mentor, Fagin.

Those attending will be treated to classic songs from the musical, including Food Glorious Food, You’ve Got to Pick-a-Pocket or Two and I’d Do Anything.

The show recently finished a two-year stint at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London. When it opened, it achieved the biggest advance sales of all time for a West End show.

Oliver! also celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, having first opened in the West End in 1960.

The musical was made into a film in 1968. It won six Academy Awards and two Golden Globes.
