Edinburgh set to host international book festival

Literature fans may want to stay in city centre accommodation in Edinburgh while attending an international book festival being held there.

The Edinburgh International Book Festival, run in association with the Guardian, will take place August 13th and 29th in the Charlotte Square Gardens, which are transformed into a "tented village".

Entry to the gardens is free, so book-lovers can go along to sit, talk and be entertained without spending a penny.

However, there is the option to buy tickets for special events being held during the festival.

The organisers have also commissioned 50 authors to write short stories or essays around the theme of 'Elsewhere'.

Edinburgh International Book Festival was first held in 1983 and it has taken place on an annual basis since 1997.

It has now become one of the biggest book festivals in the world, having over 700 events on offer.

Around 220,000 visitors attend the event every year.
