Historic Newcastle buildings to open their doors
History lovers who are planning to stay in Newcastle hostels may enjoy looking around some of the city's famous buildings.
A number of Newcastle's historic buildings will be opening their doors as part of the Heritage Open Days between September 8th and 11th, reports the Shields Gazette.
South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade will open its watch house on September 11th.
Honorary secretary Tom Fennelly told the news provider: "It has been here since 1867, and has continuously provided search and rescue capabilities in conjunction with the Coastguard.
"It is a Grade II listed building and is unique in its architecture and its heritage."
On Monkton Business Park, Hebburn, [del comma] will open on September 8th and 9th.
Mark Cumberledge, credit controller, explained that the building has over 150 years of history, so there [are] plenty of stories to share with visitors.
During the course of the weekend, over 20 buildings in and around Newcastle will be taking part in Heritage Open Days.
