National Museum of Scotland attracts 500,000 visitors
Tourists who have stayed in Edinburgh hostels over the past six weeks may be among those who visited the National Museum of Scotland.
The museum opened on July 29th and since then, it has attracted over half-a-million visitors.
Its opening follows a £47 million refurbishment that took three years to complete.
Culture secretary Fiona Hyslop said: "With more than half a million visitors in little over five weeks, the newly-transformed National Museum of Scotland has already established itself as a must-see attraction for local, national and international visitors.
"Its spectacular public spaces and extraordinary collections offer a world-class experience, showcasing Scotland's rich cultural heritage and our remarkable contributions to the world."
Gordon Rintoul, director of National Museums Scotland, added that he was "delighted" at the number of visitors the newly opened museum had attracted, and noted that feedback from visitors had been "overwhelmingly postitve".
He said that the National Museum of Scotland is a new cultural landmark in Edinburgh and is a "hugely popular attraction".
