Edinburgh Film Festival 'to remain in June'
Movie buffs will carry on staying in hostels in Edinburgh in June for the city's annual film festival, it has been revealed.
According to the Scotsman, the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) will not be moved from its June slot, following pressure for the event to be moved back to August.
The film festival was first held in June in 2008 (before which it was held in August), because it was struggling to compete with other international rivals that took place in the later summer month.
However, according to one source, the EIFF is still struggling because it does not receive the funding or media attention that other similar events do.
They are quoted as saying: "The blunt truth is the festival has a lot less funding to work from now than it did in 2007, when this decision [to move to June] was taken.
"If it was to move back to August, it would still struggle to compete with events like London and Venice, which have much bigger budgets."
