Joe Egg's dark comedy in Glasgow

A new theatrical production of a darkly comic social satire may attract Glasgow hostel guests to the city's Citizens Theatre.

A Day in the Death of Joe Egg is a poignantly gnawing social satire which follows a couple who struggle to care for their disabled child.

Treading the fine line between comedy and tragedy, the play looks at the lives of Brian, a troubled teacher at a boisterous comprehensive school and Sheila, his resilient wife who is desperate for their daughter to get better.

Brian's mockery knows no bounds and nothing is off limits for the down-trodden teacher, including his doting wife who will do anything to make her husband happy.

Ultimately however it is a just a way for him to defend against the trauma and heart-ache of their daughter's plight.

Starring the veritable stage and screen veteran, Miriam Margoyles as Sheila and comedian Miles Jupp as Brian, A Day in The Death of Joe Egg runs from October 19th to November 12th at Glasgow's Citizens Theatre.

Tickets are priced between £10.50 and £18, with discount tickets at £10 offered on Tuesdays.
