Scroobius Pip brings spoken word to the Arches

Scroobius Pip is bringing his solo show to the Arches, pulling fans of the spoken word maestro to Glasgow hotels.

Having shot to fame with the anthemic Thou Shalt Always Kill in 2007, Scroobius Pip, AKA Dan Meads, became something of a pioneer for spoken word.

Usually confined to stale poetry evenings attended by people in sandals and cardigans, Scroobius Pip grabbed spoken word by the scruff of the neck and thrust it into the mainstream with a healthy dose of electro and hip hop.

Collaborating with friend and producer Dan Le Sac, the pair produced an album of up tempo electro-inspired dance music with Mead's rap-style spoken word blistering scathingly in and out of tracks.

Now, Scroobius has created a solo album, Distraction Pieces, which follows similar themes and does not shy away from the social critiques and witty yet bleak observations which made him such a force to be reckoned with.

The Arches presents: Scroobius Pip is on Wednesday February 29th. Tickets cost £12.50 plus booking fee and doors open at 7.30pm.
